Will Homeowners Insurance Cover Water Heater? – Aurora CO

Hi, this is Patrick and we’re going to answer another question that we received from a customer through email. They asked, “Will homeowners insurance cover my water heater?” The answer is no. So the water heater is the responsibility of the homeowner and as they get older, they will fail. When the water heater fails, if water goes all over the floor in the basement, any damage caused by the failure of the water heater would be covered. That’s sudden and unexpected, very similar to a pipe bursting, so any damage caused by the flooding of the water heater would be covered under the water damage. That is not the same as water backup. So this would be water damage. We would cover anything that is destroyed by the water from the water heater, but we would not replace the water heater. That is the responsibility of the homeowner. Great question. Happens very frequently. Thank you.
